Poor Choco was found down south without food or water, tied with wire around her neck in a yard after her owners moved and cruelly abandoned her. Thankfully an amazing neighbor heard her cries and went to find her. The neighbor posted to social media for help and our tireless rescue friends were immediately in action and contacted us to assist. Once freed, she was instantly giving kisses to her rescuers and was so grateful to be saved. The vet thankfully saw her right away and was choked up at seeing how horribly such a super sweet being was treated. Luckily her wounds have healed and there is no major damage to her throat other than scarring, but we recommend the use of a harness instead of a collar to walk her. Choco gets along well with other dogs, cats, and kids, but she's got a lot of puppy in her and doesn't know her size so we'd recommend teens and up in the home. She's loving this second chance at life and is excited to take advantage of it, so we'd like to see her with an active family that includes her on all sorts of memory-making fun and adventures to overwrite her past with love and positivity. She’s doing a great job with potty training, but she has some fears when it comes to crating. Her southern foster worked diligently with her using positive reinforcement, but positive associations will need to be continued to help her feel safe in the crate. We can only imagine what life was like with a person that would abandon her in such a way, so it’s understanding that she needs a little guidance on the basics, but positive reinforcement learning is a great way to bond with your new family member. Despite all that, she remains soooo happy and affectionate – it’s all up from here, Choco, you are a gem!!

We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs.
