Handsome Ham was dropped off at a southern shelter, even though an owner surrender would be immediately euthanized (because there is no need for a stray hold time period to look for owners)… Just because his owner was over it. Ham was so sad and emotional but was left just the same. Thankfully there were volunteer rescue friends there to see what was happening and jump into action to give this boy the second chance he deserves! NELR is so excited to get Ham into the arms of a family that will show him what unconditional love and care look like. He’s proven to be super-duper sweet in his foster home, but is nervous and shy, as though his life before was not a very kind one (unsurprisingly). This gentle boy wants so badly to be able to be friendly, affectionate, and trusting, and… with slow, gentle introductions, he’s been able to get there - yay Ham! We believe he had to contend with other dogs for food and resources in his original home, but since observing and getting used to his foster’s wonderful resident dogs, he’s had no trouble sharing or guarding anything and is so relieved and happy! He loves playing, snuggling, and running about with his new dog friends and would be happy to get along with any kind, easy-going, resident pups, but we think he’d also be just as content to be a spoiled only-dog for once, too. Oh and toys? Amazing! He’s going to be such a fun pup to spoil with treats and toys and love ❤️ He’s also been sweet and gentle with kids and loves the positive attention from them. He pays no mind to his foster’s cats, either, but most of all he is just LOVING all the kind people around him and will be so pleased to be a beloved member of a family!

We are a nonprofit organization - all adoption fees go towards the rescue, veterinary care, and transportation of these dogs in order to get them ready for their forever homes.

We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs.
