You may recognize Marmaduke (AKA Duke) from our recent fundraiser and we are so excited to share that he is ready to find his forever home! Duke was in rough shape at a southern shelter and came to our attention when we started receiving pleas for help from the southern rescue network. All NELR knew was that he needed help, and odds were he was going to need vetting care above and beyond our normal scope. No one knows exactly what happened to Duke; it's just speculation. He was either beaten and then dumped, or hit by a car and he found his way into a ditch. Once in the ditch, he was attacked and severely hurt by perhaps a pack of dogs or a wild animal. He couldn't defend himself due to his fractured leg. Duke received extensive medical care and had a leisurely stay at his southern foster’s home to receive loads of love and of course any recovery assistance needed. Throughout the excruciating pain, he always remained loving, and happily wagging his tail to thank his human helpers. Dogs like Duke never cease to amaze us! Despite all this poor pup must have endured, he is so loving, well-behaved, walks perfectly on a leash, has great manners, and is beyond happy to be loved. He’s also looking fantastic and thankfully feeling great! His foster said he just continued to get sweeter every day, and is such a calm, gentle soul that loves everyone. We - and his fan base of all those who helped along the way - can’t wait to see him settled into a loving home that treats him like the little sweetheart he is. He just wants to experience love and return it with all the resilient love he has kept in his heart!

We are a nonprofit organization - all adoption fees go towards the rescue, veterinary care, and transportation of these dogs in order to get them ready for their forever homes.

We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs.
