Poor Smokey had a rough start to life. She was found wandering the roads down south in search of food, covered in fleas, ticks and patchy fur, and was suffering from malnutrition. Our amazing rescue friends found that she was living under someone’s house and had a litter of puppies that she was also trying desperately to keep fed. The amazing network did what they do best and offered to find a safe landing place for Smokey and her litter, which they were thankfully taken up on. Her litter did great and has already been adopted out while Mama Smokey stayed behind to get some extra love and care. While she was going through vetting to get her feeling better, she was also found to be heartworm positive, so she went through HW treatment during her foster stay down south. She was a lovely houseguest and very much enjoyed all the comforts and positivity, but she’s all done, looking and feeling great, and is ready to find her happily ever after in New Hampshire or Vermont (*due to certain state regulations regarding transport of recently HW+ animals).

 

Smokey is so sweet and thankful to be in a better situation! She looooves love and thinks all these nice people, comfy beds, and yummy foods are just the best!! She is still a little nervous at times, like maybe this good stuff won’t last (which is heartbreaking), but she is finding happiness and is able to enjoy life again! While she is trustworthy in the house uncrated, she does need to be somewhat coaxed to go out for potty walks or else she will hold it too long, which we feel is residual fear that she won’t be allowed back inside and hopefully a routine and home she can call her own will help her feel confident in good time. She’s a very gentle, loving girl and it’s easy to make her day as she delights in the simplest kindness. She’s spent time living with dogs, cats, and kids and done great with all. She is just a darling and deserves to be completely spoiled!

We are a nonprofit organization - all adoption fees go towards the rescue, veterinary care, and transportation of these dogs in order to get them ready for their forever homes.

We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs.
