Kookie’s story is one of pure resilience and love. This devoted two-year-old mother and her babies were rescued from an overcrowded, high-risk shelter down South where nearly every dog faces euthanasia. The amazing rescue network down there contacted NELR to see if we could help this little family and we were happy to help get them to safety. Kookie had kept herself and her babies alive and safe through all the dangers of life as a stray, and it was finally her turn to be taken care of! Her babies (Karoly, Krypton, Kenny, and Kimba) were healthy, happy, and old enough to travel to New England where they have all already found loving NELR adoptive forever homes. Kookie was underweight after all that nursing and stayed behind to get enough nourishment to handle her spay and vetting needs. During her vetting, she was found to be heartworm-positive, so she stayed down south for a bit to go through her treatment. After going through all of that, she had one last hiccup from an old injury and needed FHO surgery on her hip, but NOW… she’s all done, feeling good and is ready to find her loving forever home in New Hampshire, Vermont, or Maine (*due to some state’s regulations regarding transport of recently heartworm positive animals)! 

 

She’s as sweet as can be and loves everyone. Kookie is potty & crate trained, and trustworthy in the house. She is happy, loving, cuddly, and so appreciative of this wonderful new life! She prefers to eat meals alone, which is common in rescue dogs that have been food-insecure, and at his point we think she might just enjoy being the only “baby” in the house anyways, so she can get all the pampering she’s earned (and deserves!). She really enjoys treats, couch cuddles, and loooooves being petted. She is gentle, sweet, and we are so proud of her bravery and resilience. What an amazing, heart-of-gold girl she is! Someone will be so lucky to have their home filled with her love!

We are a nonprofit organization - all adoption fees go towards the rescue, veterinary care, and transportation of these dogs in order to get them ready for their forever homes.

We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs.
