Collage of DogsIt’s because of kind and generous people like you, we are able to save many labs, get them vetted, bring them up on transport to New England and place them into loving homes where they will thrive and be loved. We are thrilled to let you know that NELR has placed about 1,800 labs in the past three years, and it is our goal to continue to save this much loved breed and follow through until they find their “forever” homes. We could not do it without wonderful supporters like you!!

For example, Turner was neglected by his original owners and was never given any heart worm prevention. His owners left him at a shelter and refused to pay the minimal fee to treat him. NELR stepped up and placed Turner into our program. We had him treated for heart worms ($700.00), neutered, gave him all his shots, and transported him to New England.

The Gov paintingGovernor is also part of our NELR Team! The Gov came into NELR from an upper state NY shelter as “un-adoptable “. Gov had two hips out of joint, a broken pelvis and a ripped and torn tendon in one of his back hocks. In addition, he was filled with buck shot! After doing much research, a kind and generous surgeon offered to do his surgeries and donated the hip implants. He wears a brace to walk as well.
Considering all his trauma, we are amazed at how The Gov is filled with love, happiness and trust. He’s an example of overcoming hardship and then going on to unconditionally spread joy, wiggles, kisses and love to all he meets. He remains with Heather, President of NELR, and her family, because of the tremendous bonding that took place during his recovery.
This original painting was created by Alicia VanNoy Call. Her work can be seen at dawgart.com . Alicia kindly donated the proceeds from the auction of this painting to NELR to further rescue dogs.
